The future of amateur radio is:

as alive and well as it has ever been.
dying a slow painful death.
experiencing a rebirth.
same old stuff and getting old.
challenging and exciting.
does not carry the same weight it used to.
a hobby worth defending.
fading quickly.

Welcome to W9CDL's Place

Thanks for stopping by. At this point I am currently involved in working VHF/UHF weak signal operations and contesting. I am also enjoying experimenting with digital modes.

I am a member of a few different clubs,

Chippewa Valley VHF Contesters (K9CVC) http://cvvhf.org/

Northern Lights Radio Society http://www.nlrs.org/

Central States VHF Society http://www.csvhfs.org/

147.545 MHz simplex is where we gather locally to rag chew and discuss recent band openings and upcoming contests. If you are in the area feel free to join in.

Amateur Radio Related Updates

***UPDATE** One of the best things related to amateur radio that has happened to me as of recently is that I had my photos published in the September 2005 QST and on the cover of the June 2006 QST.

The cover shot and two of the insets were pictures I took at the club (K9CVC) Field Day 2005 site.

The magazine gave credit to Dave (N9TTX) as he was the one who submitted the "Soapbox" entry with the photos attached.

But they were my shots and I am humbled and honored to have them published.

I was just informed (late July 06) that I will again have my photos published in the September 2006 QST.

This time it will be with the VHF and up scores.

I have the pleasure of sharing this honor with others. One of which is a member (K9MU) of our local club Chippewa Valley VHF Contesters.

Other goings on:

Added a second "mini" tower as a temporary solution to add 222 and 1296 in June 2006. The plan is to get them on the main tower by the end of 2006. Might happen, might not.

It did not happen. However the plan is in motion for spring of 2007

I received my VUCC for 6 meters in June 2006. Number 1492

As of October of 2005 I took and passed my written General exam and I am now attempting to learn code in my spare time.

Due to alot of personal issues that happened during 2006 I never did get the code accomplished. My CSCE expired and I retook, and passed the written general test in January 2007

2007 is a fresh start with the intentions of learning code and using it, even if it is not a licensing requirement.

CURRENT EQUIPMENT IN THE SHACK:

Still adding and changing feedlines, antennas, radios, amps and the like to get things where I want them. In true amateur spirit I think that will never end.

As of right now things are as follows:

In the shack the radios of choice at this point are a Kenwood 2000X and a Yaesu FT-736R with modules for 6 Meter and 1.25 Meter.

Also a Yaesu FT 1500 simplex and repeater work.

6 meter = 375 watts (under 200 while contesting) / 45' / 5 element

2 meter = 160 watts / 48' / 14 element

1.25 meter = 30 watts / 34' / 10 element

70 cm = 100 watts / 53' / 22 element

23 cm = 10 watts / 35' / 35 element

CURRENT MOBILE EQUIPMENT:

Mobile consists of a Yaesu FT 857D and Yaesu FT 1500M

10 meter = 100 watts

6 meter = 170 watts

2 meter = 160 watts

70 cm = 100 watts

and a whole cache of Yaesu FT 1500's doing duty in the other vehicles
